FORT CAMPBELL, Kentucky (CNN) — The 101st Airborne’s senior commander in effect ordered his soldiers Wednesday not to commit suicide, a plea that came after 11 suicides since January 1, two of them in the past week.

Fort Campbell’s suicide rate, the highest in the Army, “is not a good statistic,” he said in remarks to one of four divisions he addressed during the day.

After nearly one soldier per week committed suicide at the post between January and mid-March, the Army instituted a suicide prevention program that “seemed to be having good effects” until last week, when two more suicides occurred, he said.

HAARETZ: Ephraim Katzir, Israel’s fourth president and an internationally recognized biophysicist died Saturday at his home in Rehovot, several weeks after his 93rd birthday. Katzir’s 1973-1978 tenure spanned two seminal events in Israeli history: The 1973 Yom Kippur War and the historic visit of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat to Jerusalem in 1977. He left the presidency after one term to return to scientific research, declining a second term due to his wife’s illness.

Seatle Times: A King County jury that heard the case against Brandon Lemar Brown over the past week apparently didn’t buy his defense. He claimed that he couldn’t have raped the 15-year-old girl he was pimping out because she couldn’t accurately describe his penis in detail. 

Brown, 25, testified in Superior Court that he was half-circumcised, that his penis was covered in some type of marks and that it was extremely small, authorities said. However, a police detective disagreed with his description. To combat Brown’s defense, King County Deputy Prosecutor Sean O’Donnell called a Seattle police detective, who photographed Brown’s penis, to testify on its appearance. The photos were shown to jurors while they deliberated. After just a few hours deliberating, jurors on Thursday found Brown guilty of third-degree child rape and promoting commercial abuse of a minor.

Dailymail: Tax authorities in Germany are poised to claim 50 per cent of the money that a teenage student earned for ‘auctioning’ her virginity because they claim it was ‘tantamount to prostitution’.

Romanian-born Alina Percea, who is a student in Germany, was paid £8,800 in cash for a weekend of sex with the Italian businessman after she auctioned her virginity online.

But tax officials in Berlin regard the 18-year-old’s act as ‘nothing more than prostitution’.

Prostitution is legal in Germany – but it is heavily taxed.

‘It is not a moral standpoint but a fiscal one,’ an official said. ‘Prostitution is not an illegal act in Germany, but not paying tax on earned money is.

‘Consequently we are assessing her case and it looks likely she will have to pay around half of the sum she gained.’

The Romanian-born computer studies student’s Student Alina Perceaisa allows her to work in Germany for 90 days – even as a prostitute.

Telegraph: An Italian model who swears she has never had sex plans to sell her virginity for one million euros, or £792,000.Showgirl and men’s magazine model Raffella Fico, 20, told an Italian magazine: “I can’t wait to see who’s going to pull out the money to have me.”

Miss Fico, who appeared in the Italian version of Big Brother earlier this year, said she would use the cash to buy a house in Rome and pay for acting classes.

Wright declined to comment when the Scene contacted him at his Bristol, Va., home. But despite repeated complaints from fellow employees, managers at the National HealthCare Corp.
